most resourceful christmas ever.

So this year - like many others - I am incredibly broke this holiday season. BUT the other night I had the most fabulous idea!

This year, I am making my family cloth bags out of recycled fabric to use at the store instead of plastic because it is more environmentally friendly. The layout and basic design of each bag is identical, however, the decor on each will be different and personalized with quotes, flowers, pictures, and other pretty things!

I'm also going to give them a ton of baked goods, and will possibly make each person a small recipe book for food or drinks I think they may enjoy. I may also make them personalized horoscope charts.

I think I'm also gonna make them another little booklet with tips and things about how to be more green/why the cloth bags I am giving them are awesome!

What are you doing to save money, but not skimp on Christmas?

  1. Well, it's not longer Christmas, but I did a lot of homemade gifts. Made a wreath for my dad's fiance (used flowers and ribbon from the dollar store), made infused vodkas for friends (fruit, mason jars I already had on hand and I bought 2 large bottle of Smirnoff), and nibbles for my grandparents and stepdad. I bought paperback versions of books I enjoyed when I was the age of each of my siblings (10, 11, 13, 14) and a book for my dad as well. If it wasn't edible or readable, it was something small I knew the recipient would like (a cool mug for my tea drinking roommate, an insulated reusable Trader Joe's bag for my health foodie mom).

Hope your bags and recipe books were well received! Those are great ideas.
